A new PSL season brings
a new look to squash in Surrey, with the upcoming Surrey
Sports Park due to open in early 2010, and an exciting
new Guildford based squash franchise – Surrey Storm.
The upcoming Surrey Sports Park will be one of Europe’s
premier sites for elite sport, physical activity,
wellbeing and leisure, and with Surrey Storm we are
aiming to create an elite squash team worthy of such a
venue.
Our plan is to develop the team to be in a
position to win the PSL within the next 2 seasons and we
have therefore spent a busy summer making some
fundamental changes that will see us drive forward in
the next few years as we move towards our new
world-class squash facilities.
 This
summer saw Surrey Sports Park confirm its commitment to
squash with the appointment of Graeme Williams as the
new coach for the new Sports Park and the University of
Surrey.
Graeme is currently one of eight Regional
England Squash and Racketball Development Coaches, with
a remit to develop the elite junior players in London
and the South East.
The Surrey Sports Park has
identified several sports which will be used to showcase
the magnificent new facility, with squash being one of
these sports. Six new state-of-the-art glass backed
squash courts are being built, with two show courts for
a staggering 160 spectators.
Our current squash facility, the Varsity Centre, offers
the best squash facilities in Guildford, and whilst
being the England Squash Regional Centre of Excellence
is now the temporary home to Surrey Storm (previously
UniSPORT Guildford). In addition to this the Varsity
Centre has 5 squash courts (2 glass backed) and has over
200 members including an active junior section.

If you want to take
part in our diverse squash programme either at our
current facilities at the Varsity Centre or next year at
the Surrey Sports Park then there are a number of ways
to get involved.
Squash facilities are available on a
pay-as-you play basis for non-members, and can be booked
up to one week in advance. Squash membership is also
available and entitles you to a number of benefits
including free courts, two weeks advance booking, entry
to squash leagues and exclusive access to a designated
‘club night’.
Budding young squash players have access
to an extensive junior squash development programme
including coached Sunday sessions, junior teams and
discounted junior membership.
