Duffield Squash
Club - A unique small village
club with international connections ...
Duffield squash club is a members club which shares the
clubhouse facilities with Duffield Tennis Club. The club
is situated on the A6, 4 miles north of Derby city
centre in the heart of the beautiful village of
Duffield. It is the most senior club in Derbyshire and
prides itself on well maintained and comprehensive
facilities.
The first court was built in 1937 and the club has now 5
squash courts, one of which is a glass back show court
with a seating capacity of 60 plus, recently refurbished
changing rooms with showers and saunas, bar and lounge
facilities with viewing area, and a very well equipped
gym for use by club members.
A team comprising of one lady and four men have been
competing in the national squash league, now the Premier
squash league, for 15 years, winning the league title in
1998 and again in 2006 and 2007.The former world number
1 and world champion, Cassie Jackman MBE,
represented the club in the former national league with
distinction for 7 seasons until she was forced to retire
in 2005. Nick Mathew, Joey Barrington and
Tania Bailey currently spearhead the PSL team,
which regularly attract over 100 supporters for home
fixtures.
Felix Frixou, proprietor of Benz Bavarian Limited
in Duffield, has sponsored the team for 11 of its 15
years and has recently taken over the mantle of team
manager.
The Club is run by a very enthusiastic and hard working
committee.
